Dristeem Sustainability Initiatives: Energy Efficiency Reduces Environmental Impact of Operations
Eden Prairie, MN – February 2025 – DRI-STEEM Corporation (DriSteem), the leading manufacturer of humidity control, evaporative cooling, and water treatment products, continues their ongoing sustainability initiative aimed at significantly reducing the environmental footprint of its facility and operations.
Key sustainability enhancements include:
- Energy-efficient lighting: The facility’s traditional fluorescent ceiling lights have been replaced with state-of-the-art LED fixtures. These lights provide brighter illumination, are more energy-efficient, and are easy to recycle, reducing energy consumption and waste.
- Advanced roofing solutions: The DriSteem facility now features a white Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) membrane roof. This innovative material triples the R-value compared to a traditional gravel roof, substantially reducing heating requirements during winter and decreasing the cooling load in summer by effectively reflecting solar energy.
- Eco-friendly HVAC systems: All eleven rooftop heating and air conditioning units at the DriSteem facility use ozone-layer-friendly R410A refrigerant. R410A offers superior thermodynamic properties compared to older refrigerants, so these HVAC units operate at higher efficiency, providing better heating and cooling performance while consuming less energy.
- State-of-the-art-evaporative cooling system: Perhaps the most significant improvement is the installation of a DriSteem Adiatec® high-pressure system to enhance temperature control. By humidifying the factory in winter and cooling the facility with atomized water vapor in summer, this system offers considerable energy savings while maintaining optimal comfort and safety levels rather than relying on energy-intensive boiling water or conventional air conditioning compressors.
