DriSteem Installs STS Humidifier and Ultra-sorb XV Steam Dispersion Panels at Canal View Houghton County Medical Care Facility
Installation to benefit the health of all skilled nursing facility residents and staff
Eden Prairie, MN – June 18, 2020 – DRI-STEEM Corporation (DriSteem), the leading manufacturer of humidification, evaporative cooling, and water treatment products, announced today the success of the installation of a DriSteem STS® (steam-to-steam) humidifier and Ultra-sorb® XV steam dispersion panels at the newly renovated Canal View – Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Detroit, Michigan.
Built in 1951, Canal View – Houghton County Medical Care Facility underwent a major transformation and addition in 2017 which aimed to improve existing drafty conditions of the aged building and to limit virus transmission for the health benefit of its residents and staff. An important design condition for the senior living facility was the need to maintain an indoor air temperature of 74°F and proper humidification levels.
Lane Bentsen, consulting-specifying engineer with Hooker/DeJong, Inc. determined that the best humidification system to use for the facility was of the STS-400 model because of its multiple benefits. DriSteem’s STS humidifier is capable of exceeding design conditions during sustained cold snaps and the facilities ultimate goal of eliminating bacteria and viruses that thrived in dry air from and to rid the boiler chemicals from prior equipment. DriSteem’s STS humidifier boils clean water, rather than chemical-treated boiler water into humidification steam. Steam generated by the STS humidifier reaches the air handler via the DriSteem Ultra-sorb XV steam dispersion panel that does not have a condensate drain. The XV panel has a heat exchanger in the header that flashes any dispersion-generated condensate right back into humidification steam, thus creating zero water waste.
“DriSteem is proud to be selected for the Houghton County Medical Care Facility. Our STS humidifier will keep the residents of the facility healthy and comfortable ,” said Mysty Hanson, Assistant Product Manager at DriSteem.
DriSteem’s STS steam-to-steam humidifier creates chemical-free humidification steam using boiler steam as its energy source. It accomplishes this by using boiler steam in its heat exchanger to vaporize clean fill water into humidification steam. It is a closed-loop system, so no boiler steam or chemicals enter the humidified space; they return to the boiler. The Ultra-sorb XV pressurized steam dispersion panel is an industry first for pressurized steam that vaporizes dispersion-generated condensate and returns pressurized condensate to the boiler without additional pumps, valves, vents or controls.
